How to make Pumpkin Spice Syrup at home

Luckily, Pumpkin Spice Syrup is easy to make at home and keeps in the refrigerator for over a week (if it lasts that long!). You only need a few ingredients to make this Pumpkin Spice Syrup.

Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar: This recipe for Pumpkin Spice Syrup uses half brown sugar and half white granulated sugar. You can use all one or the other if desired or you can even use coconut sugar, which will make the syrup a little less sweet. I have found that using half brown sugar and half white sugar gives the best syrup-y consistency and depth of flavor.

Water: Reduces the sugars to a liquid.

Pumpkin Puree: REAL pumpkin gives this Pumpkin Spice Syrup recipe authentic flavor!

Spices – Ground Cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, & ground cloves: You can feel free to change up the spices to suit your personal taste. This mixture gives the syrup a warm, spiced flavor. You could also add a small amount of black or white pepper to increase the spice level.

Ways to use Homemade Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • Add the Pumpkin Spice syrup to your tea – either hot or cold – to make a Tea Latte
  • Add the syrup to your oatmeal for a burst of Fall flavor
  • Add the syrup to smoothies
  • Drizzle on pancakes or waffles instead of maple syrup

How to Make a homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

If you want to save time and money, you can skip the drive to Starbucks and make a Starbucks copycat Pumpkin Spice Latte at home!

You’ll need a couple of things to do this but, I promise, you won’t regret buying these items if you don’t already have them at home. There are so many uses for them!

You’ll need:

  • Coffee Pot, French press, or a Moka Pot
  • Milk Frother
  • Quality Coffee – I use this Italian Roast daily but Universal Brew Co. also has a Pumpkin Spice Coffee that is roasted and shipped the day it is ordered! I highly recommend Universalbrewco.com !! You can also choose whole bean, standard grind, or espresso grind – it’s your choice for each type of coffee ordered!
  • Your choice of milk – You can use dairy milk, almond milk, coconut milk or oat milk. I have found that dairy milk and oat milk froth the best.
  • Heavy cream or half and half – You only need this if you want to add a cold or hot foam on top of your latte.

Although you can use a handheld milk frother like THIS ONE to make you homemade latte’s, I prefer an electric frother that both warms and froths the milk. This is the milk frother that I use and love.

What Kind of Coffee Should I Use in my Pumpkin Spice Latte

Using high-quality coffee will give you the best results when making a homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte. You can use single-origin coffee, blended coffee beans, or flavored coffee. The coffee that you use depends on your personal preference but the quality of the beans, freshness of the roast, and precision of the grind truly do matter when brewing coffee.

I purchase my coffee from Universal Brew Co. because I love the variety and the fact that the beans are roasted the day your order is placed. You can also choose to purchase whole beans, espresso grind, or standard grind.

When brewing espresso, the grind should be a medium grind to get the perfect extraction without getting a bitter flavor. For a French Press or percolator-style coffee pot, the standard grind is optimal.

If you choose to purchase whole beans, you can ensure an even fresher taste in your coffee by grinding the beans yourself just before brewing. You’ll need a coffee grinder in that case of course. Here is the one that I use at home.
